Lydia Knorr's Tips for Healthy Nutrition All Year Long

National Nutrition Month is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean your healthy nutrition habits should. Dietitian Lydia Knorr has some simple tips to help you and your family eat well all year long.

For starters, make meals healthier and sweeter by topping a salad or stir fry with Florida citrus fruit or including 100% pure fruit juices in sauces or marinades. For more ideas, check out our citrus recipe swap

Don’t rely on unhealthy last-minute meals. Plan ahead by getting input from your family on meals for the week ahead and seek their advice on how to make the meals healthy. This way everyone comes to the table happy and ready to enjoy some good nutrition.

When time permits, feed the whole family from one menu that offers plenty of variety. Serve at least two different types of meat and vegetables at dinner to make sure everyone has something to choose from. What doesn’t get eaten today can be somebody’s lunch tomorrow.

You can also look for ways to “healthify” family favourites like spaghetti and meatballs. Use lean ground turkey in place of beef or pork for the meatballs then mix a bunch of vegetables in with the tomato sauce, cook until tender and puree in the blender for a sauce bursting with vitamins, minerals and loads of flavor.
